About This Site
Who is behind this advice, and why you can trust it.
My name is James Carter. I have been working in pest control for over 15 years, dealing with infestations in homes, rental properties, commercial premises, and food businesses across the UK. In that time I have dealt with every pest on this site, usually in far worse conditions than most people will ever encounter.
I built this site because the advice online is, frankly, poor. You will find articles that recommend products that do not work, that miss out the one step that makes everything else effective, or that are clearly written by someone who has never set a trap or mixed a spray solution in their life. I wanted to put something straight and honest in its place.
What I have actually done
Hands-on pest control work in homes, businesses, and agricultural sites.
I have dealt with every one of these pests on real jobs, not just in theory.
The products I recommend are the ones I use or have used professionally.
I tell you when a job is beyond DIY. There is no benefit in overselling what you can do yourself.
What this site is for
This site covers the most common household pests in the UK. For each one, I explain how they get in, what type of product is actually worth buying, what the common mistakes are, how to use the product correctly, and when the problem is serious enough to need a professional.
I do not sell products directly. Some links on this site are Amazon affiliate links, which means I earn a small commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. That commission helps keep the site running. Every product I recommend is something I believe in, not just something that pays a good commission.
A note on professional pest control
DIY pest control works well when a problem is caught early. The guides here are designed to help you deal with a light infestation quickly and confidently. But I am not going to pretend that every problem can be solved with a product from Amazon. Some infestations need professional-grade materials, specialist equipment, or access that is simply not safe for a homeowner. I am clear on each page about when that line is crossed.
If you have a serious infestation and want to find a properly qualified pest controller, look for someone with BPCA (British Pest Control Association) membership or RSPH-qualified technicians.

This is a content site and I am not able to give individual pest control advice or quotes. For specific help, please contact a local pest control professional. If you have a question about the content of a particular page, you are welcome to use the site to find information, and I update the guides regularly as products and methods change.
